Summer Note-Reading Practice

June 16, 2020 by Laura King

Whether you will be continuing lessons this summer or not, I want to let you know which app I typically use the most in lessons and think would be most useful for your child to continue to improve their reading ability. It’s called Note Rush, and is now available for ios, android, and kindle fire. It’s around $5, but I think absolutely worth the money. It’s a note reading/finding game that listens to your actual instrument; even if your instrument is out of tune, as long as it’s in tune with itself it will most likely still work. It has several built in levels, but is also fully customizable. I will often have students use just one finger on each hand so they work on connecting the symbol on the page to the note on the keyboard, not to the finger on the hand. This is especially important for the young ones who are used to five finger positions. I am happy to send some short demos of how I use it, if you would like more information about how to get the most out of it.
